Fishing Report May 6th 2025
Gary with a brute of a steelhead on a sunny afternoon!
Steelhead fishing continues on the Muskegon! We are having a pretty impressive spring steelhead run this year. With a more normal winter, we are seeing a more normal steelhead run, lasting into May. With warmer temps in the ten day forecast, I suspect things will start to wrap up by mid week next week. Steelhead can be found in the shallow faster water as water temps are in the low 50s. We have already started the transition into trout fishing with mix bag days of steelhead and trout. We will be mostly focused on trout fishing sometime next week. Eggs in pale and natural orange, salmon fry and caddis nymphs have all had plenty of attention the past few days.
As we wind down on steelhead, trout fishing picks up! There is a lot to look forward to from now till mid June if you’re a trout fisherman. Swinging wet flies and stripping streamers will provide plenty of daytime action, while our evening hatches of caddis, sulfurs and drakes will starting providing great dry fly opportunities.
I have a day or two open each week going forward if you’re looking to get out on the river! I hope everyone has a fishy week! - Capt. Ross
