Fishing Report September 9th 2026
David with a nice king that smashed a thunderstick lure.
We wrapped up our summer bass fishing and have begun shifting gears towards our fall salmon season. Going forward for the month of September, I’ll be splitting my time fishing for king salmon on a couple of northern rivers and picking on the early fall smallmouth on the Muskegon River until the salmon start to make a greater presence.
Salmon fishing has been a little hit or miss with the past heat wave. Cooler weather is on the horizon and should improve the bite. Fishing big lures at day break along with float fishing skein when the hardware bite slows should grant you some success. Smallmouth fishing continues to be good with the summer like weather. Fishing small black leaches and various bait fish type fly’s or lures have done well.
