Fishing Report July 27th 2025
Marty with a great Muskegon River smallmouth!
Smallmouth fishing on the Muskegon has been steady the past couple weeks. We have experienced some cooler weather plus our current hot and muggy conditions giving the fish a different attitude depending on the day. Overall the fishing has been good. With the hot weather that moved in last week, it made it a roller coaster of bite windows, with times of fast and furious smallmouth to almost non existent.
Poppers and baitfish flies in white and chartreus seemed to get most of the attention as of late. Crayfish patterns bounced on the bottom took hold when the bite seemed to slow. On the spin rod side of things, topwater bates have had some attention in the morning hours, while working a grub or cray fish on the bottom has been the ticket during the middle part of the day.
Hope everyone has a fishy week! - Capt. Ross
